Ongoing development

From the day you join Smith & Williamson, you will be encouraged to think about both your short and long-term career goals. And this won’t stop once you complete your professional studies - we also provide programmes to encourage people into senior roles, identifying those with potential leadership qualities and addressing the skills you will need to become effective leaders and gain promotion.

During the first few years, you will receive the following support:

  • In-house training on Smith & Williamson systems
  • Career counselling
  • Regular appraisals
  • Ongoing informal talks with senior members of staff
  • Buddy / mentor system
  • Job Assessment Forms, completed by a senior manager after every assignment, to provide a discussion point at annual and interim appraisals

After qualification, you will also receive ongoing soft-skills training and have the opportunity to take up continuing post-qualification professional training. We do also provide the opportunity to transfer to other departments, as well as going on secondments and international exchanges via our global network, Nexia International.
