I graduated in 1999 and joined WestLB Panmure. Following the sale of their wealth management business and a subsequent merger I joined Smith & Williamson Investment Management in 2002, along with existing colleagues and clients.
 
Right now, I am one of two directors on a team of five managing investment portfolios for private clients, charities and pension funds.

I have also been involved in a range of other activities. I specialised in aerospace and defence companies for our central investment process. I helped develop our internal inheritance mitigation scheme and am involved in graduate recruiting.

I enjoy where I am at the moment as it is challenging providing bespoke portfolios for a range of differing mandates. It’s always rewarding to feel that client objectives have been met or exceeded and it’s satisfying having further work referred from the existing client base.

I would say that you need confidence, interpersonal and organisational skills alongside a keen appetite for macro and micro economic issues. Smith & Williamson is able to provide you with every opportunity to build proficiency across a number of areas if you have the drive to succeed.
